This is Mae’s battle call at bedtime. Each time I try to sneak off to my own bed……
Mae: Lay for me, MOMMY!
The first few things I corrected her.
Mommy: Can you say, lay WITH me instead of lay FOR me?
Mae: No, Mommy. LAY FOR ME!
I am a little slow on the draw sometimes, and it took me a smidge too long to realize that she is saying exactly what she intends to say.
She wants me to lay down for her.
She wants me to give her my time.
She wants me to give her my kisses and snuggles.
She wants me to give her an ear to pull.
She want me to give her a place to softly exhale that milky breath.
She wants me to pull up those covers that she kicks down to the end of the bed.
She wants me to give her the security and warmth of a good sleepy snuggle.
I hope that she knows that she doesn’t have to ask.
I would lay it all down for her. Everything I have and everything I am.
The wisdom of a toddler to ask for exactly what she needs………
